I am so excited to bring you my Top 5 Favorite Crochet Projects Of All Time!…At least up until this point. π It was fun going through past projects and trying to decide which were my favorites, but I have to say, it was also a little difficult…
Sometimes it’s so hard to narrow down what your favorite project is, especially when you are continually making new ones! I feel like I have a new favorite every month (lol)…can anyone relate? π When choosing the projects for this post, I tried to choose ones that stuck out. Not just that they were enjoyable to make, but because I learned something new, challenged myself somehow, or gained a new favorite technique!

elodie basket set by: two little birds patterns
First up on my top 5 favorite crochet projects of all time is this adorable Elodie Basket Set from Two Little Birds Patterns! I love this little basket set so much for so many reasons! I first want to mention that this pattern is designed by my sweet friend Emily of Two Little Birds Patterns. She has a ton of cute and stylish home decor patterns that you will definitely want to go check out immediately! She helped me so much when I wanted to get into pattern writing and I am forever grateful for her encouragement and support! Thank you Emily!! <3

why this crochet project stands out
I had never done CSC (center single crochet) before and I loved that this stitch resembled the knit stitch in knitting (they sometimes call it that in crochet as well as the waistcoat stitch). When I made these baskets, knitting had not yet stuck for me. So, it was neat to get a similar effect with crochet! I also loved the combination of tapestry crochet and the CSC. Tapestry crochet is one of my favorite things because I just can’t get enough of reading graphs. Lol!
When I saw this basket pattern I knew that I wanted to make it in a neutral yarn with a pop of neon…y’all know I love a neon! π I chose Schachenmayer Boston yarn. I had never used it before this project. But, I would definitely love to use it again! I adore the matte finish of this acrylic/wool (totally thought it was cotton) blend and the texture is great, too! I used the colors Natural, Neon Pink, and Neon Yellow. The neon compliments each of the Aztec-style prints on the baskets so well, I think!
If you have never tried tapestry crochet before, but love this pattern, no worries! Emily has a photo tutorial as well as a video tutorial for tapestry crochet, so you will be all set with the tools you need! I hope you will head over to her shop after this and find the perfect home decor crochet project for yourself or for a gift! π

homebody sweater by: megmade with love

Next on the list is this cozy and cute Homebody Sweater from Megmade With Love! This was the first true crochet garment that I made for myself – I had made a sweater for my daughter (that I totally forgot about) and also a project for my mom (that you will also see on this list) before it. π I had started others before, but just never finished them. After this fun sweater, I became addicted to making crochet and knit garments and never looked back! π
that yarn tho
I couldn’t help but pick out the most fun hand-dyed yarn for this sweater! I chose Joxer DK from Brediculous Yarns in the color Spark! It looks like confetti or a cupcake to me and is just so happy and fun! Not only was this the first real crochet garment that I made for myself, it was also my first time working with hand-dyed yarn! I have been obsessed ever since! I love the laid back feel of the sweater mixed with the playfulness of the yarn!
This sweater is one I wear all the time! If you follow me on YouTube I’m sure you have seen it. π I actually just started another one after making the video that goes along with this post…More to come on that project! Another first with this pattern was the blocking that I did. I had never blocked a crochet project before. And, I was curious to see if it would change how I felt about the garment. It really did make a difference and the sweater laid so nicely afterwards. I don’t always block my projects, but I’m always happy when I do. π

If you are new to crochet and want to make a garment, I definitely recommend this pattern. It is very beginner friendly and easy to follow! Did I mention it is free on her blog?! Whoop, whoop!

firelily cowl by: me π

Number 3 on my Top 5 Favorite Crochet Projects Of All Time is the Firelily Cowl! This pattern is special to me because it was my very first crochet pattern ever! It really pushed me to learn more and grow as a designer + maker! It especially helped me to embrace my unique design aesthetic and put one of my more “quirky” pieces out there. I never would have thought that I would be designing crochet and knitting patterns. It is truly a dream come true! One more shout out to Emily from TLB patterns for helping that dream become a reality! π
Through the pattern writing process and with Emily’s help I learned how to explain things in a way that made them easier for the crocheter to understand. It also helped me see things in a new way!

I have made this Firelily cowl in so many different colors and I always love seeing it worked up in a different yarn! The beautiful stitches and chunky yarn make such a cozy and stylish combination! It’s the perfect addition to your cold weather outfits! I have mostly used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick for this cowl, but also We Are Knitters The Wool. I actually used The Wool for my video tutorial for this crochet cowl. You can find the free written version of this cowl [here] or the step by step video tutorial below!
Because of all the things I learned through writing this pattern and the outcome of a beautifully crocheted winter scarf, I definitely had to add this to my Top 5 Favorite Crochet Projects Of All Time list! π
favorite crochet project #4
audrey gazelle by: pica pau

Have you tried amigurmi yet?! Up until a little over a year ago, I hadn’t either! Now, I’m hooked! π This adorable gazelle is why I now have a new favorite baby gift.
The Audrey Gazelle amigurumi pattern from Pica Pau is such a fun crochet project! You can find my full blog post for this project [here] and the video below! My friend Tara of She’s Rooted Home got me the Animal friends of Pica Pau book and I couldn’t wait to try making one of the many adorable animals in the book. First, I made my daughter the alpaca with some scrap yarn that I had on hand. After that, I knew I had to make another animal for my soon-to-be-born niece! I couldn’t resist embroidering her initial on the skirt. Embroidering the facial features and making them look as animated as possible is a fun challenge!
I have since made two other gazelles, a bear and a cheetah! LOL! Every Pica Pau design is so full of whimsy and I love how unique all of her patterns are. If you haven’t checked out her books, I definitely recommend them! They are so pretty to look at with easy-to-follow patterns. I plan on picking up the second book very soon!
the perfect yarn
Another reason why this crochet project made it to the top of the list is because through it I discovered my love for Paintbox Yarns! Before this project I had never used Paintbox Yarn. But, now the Cotton DK it is my absolute favorite yarn to use for amigurumi projects! For Audrey Gazelle I used:
- Washed Teal Cotton DK
- Champagne White Cotton DK
- Soft Fudge Cotton DK
- Blush Pink Cotton DK
- Slate Gray Cotton DK
There are still lots more styles and colors I need to try! π

shades of indigo poncho by: two of wands

And last but certainly not least on my Top 5 Favorite Crochet Projects Of All Time is the Shades Of Indigo Poncho from Two Of Wands! I have actually made two of these ponchos and they were both for gifts. I definitely have plans to make one for myself if I can fit it onto my forever-growing project list! π The first poncho I made, I made for my mom. It was a great opportunity for me to practice finishing a larger project, and the fact that it was a gift, made it much easier! I highly recommend this pattern if you are a beginner who wants to make a garment.
I used Lion Brand Wool Ease for the first Shades Of Indigo Poncho that I made for my mom and Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn for the second. Both are very different, but I think they both turned our great! Which one is your favorite? π I can’t wait to try something completely different for my poncho!

This poncho is special for obvious reasons (it’s an amazing design!), but also because it’s such a great opportunity to really play around with color. As y’all may know I have a slight obsession with color. π And, any opportunity to get creative and a little funky with it is always a win in my book! This pattern is very easy to follow – like all of the Two Of Wands Patterns I have tried. The main suggestion I have is to make sure and check gauge with your yarn. It’s super important because your pieces need to fit together like a puzzle. Getting the gauge right in the beginning will save you a lot of time and headache…trust me, I know from experience. π
bonus crochet project
la vie boheme cardigan by: me π

Ok, I know I was only supposed to mention 5 crochet projects, but it was so hard to narrow it down! I just had to add in a bonus project. π This one also ranks high on my faves list. It wasn’t a planned design or anything. I just splurged on some yarn for Christmas and started crocheting…Next thing I knew the La Vie Boheme Cardigan was born. It includes my favorite yarn brand of all time – Knit Collage – and also some gorgeous super squishy Wool from We Are Knitters. The result is a super cool and unique cardigan full of color and texture (my favorite things!)
I hope to come out with a pattern for this baby in the not too distant future! π
