my amigurumi projects
I am still fairly new to amigurumi and I don’t work on these projects very often…although, lately the opposite seems to be true…I always enjoy seeing these sweet animals form as I crochet them! They make the best baby gifts (in my opinion) and I love picking out the perfect animal to go along with a nursery theme or color pallet.
If you haven’t checked out the Animal Friends Of Pica Pau Books, you definitely should! There are so many cute patterns to choose from! I only have book 1 at the moment. But, I definitely plan on getting the second book very soon!
This is now my 4th completed Pica Pau amigurumi project. And, I can’t wait to make even more! My first animal was the adorable alpaca. This might be my favorite one from the book, but it’s really hard to decide. I made it for my daughter and just used scrap yarn that I had on hand. For my second project, I made Audrey Gazelle. This was a baby gift, so I gave it a little personalized touch with the embroidered initial on the skirt. You can find my blog post with video for that gazelle [here]. I have since made another gazelle and am starting on a third. LOL! That brings us to my 4th completed Pica Pau project – Rosa Cheetah…or, maybe we should call him Rodger Cheetah since I made him a boy. π
paintbox yarn i used
As I mentioned earlier, I used scrap yarn for my first Pica Pau project – the alpaca. But, for the Gazelle I wanted to use a really special yarn since it was a baby gift. I chose Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK. I am now hooked on this yarn for these animals cause it gives great stitch definition. And, they have so many awesome colors to choose from!
For the cheetah I used: Soft Fudge for the body; Champagne White for the bottom of the snout and stripe in the shirt; Coffee Bean (+ crochet thread) for the spots; Slate Gray for the other stripe in the shirt and Dolphin Blue for the little overalls. I also used some black crochet thread, that I had on hand, for all the embroidered parts as well. I realize that cheetahs aren’t usually brown. Haha! π But, I wanted to use the yarn that I already had on hand from my gazelle. I don’t think it takes away from his cuteness at all. Do you? π
embroidered details for the cheetah
It’s always a fun challenge to bring the cute little facial features to life through embroidery. I love to see their smiles and noses. I originally purchased the Coffee Bean brown color for the embroidered spots on this cheetah. But, they didn’t give enough contrast on the Soft Fudge yarn. So, I added black crochet thread as well.
As far as the eyes go – I have used a few different options for my projects in the past: black beads, embroidered eyes and tiny crocheted balls. There isn’t a Hobby Lobby or Michael’s near me, and I’m not sure if the old fashioned pharmacy that I do have carries safety eyes or not. So, I’ve tried to get creative with what I have available. After testing out a few different options, I think the round embroidered eyes are my favorite. It takes a little bit of meticulous shaping to get them how you want them, but the end result looks great! Plus, they are ultimate safety eyes cause those babies aren’t going anywhere! π
the cheetahs shirt and overalls
I mean, can you even with these overalls?! I cannot. π In the book, Rosa Cheetah has an adorable little overall dress. But, this little guy was for a baby boy, so I couldn’t resist attempting a tiny pair of overalls for him. I used the original overall dress pattern as a starting point and then just added in the legs. The straps and front section are pretty similar to the dress pattern in the book. I also added a hole in the back for his tail. The striped shirt pairs nicely, I think. I now feel like I need to attempt a wardrobe for my daughter’s stuffed animals. LOL!
the cutest pica pau amigurumi cheetah
Just like the other Pica Pau animals that I’ve crocheted, this cheetah was so much fun to make! I love seeing each detail being added and watching an adorable little creation form. I am definitely hooked on amigurumu! These little guys will be my go-to baby gift for sure. And, I can’t wait to make even more in the future! Thanks so much for joining me! Let me know what amigurumi projects you have been loving lately! π
