Have you ever started a project with the goal of using up scrap yarn, only to find out you had to buy MORE yarn just to finish?! Well, that’s exactly what happened to me. But it resulted in a cute crochet loop stitch rug pattern, so I’m not too mad about it. 😉

I’m on a mission to use up ALL my scrap yarn and have been for a few months now. I’ve been successful with some projects, but not so much with others. I had quite a bit of I Love This Yarn! from Hobby Lobby and wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do with it. After seeing a knit loop stitch pillow from @knitdiaries (and needing a rug solution for my bathroom) I decided to make a loop stitch rug using all my neon colors in that brand!
uh-oh!
I thought it would be a cute and fun rug that would whip up super fast, and it was….sort of. 😉 About 6″ in, I started to run out of colors (definitely misjudged the amount of yarn I had, hahaha). I didn’t take into account that the loop stitch uses quite a bit of yarn. Also, I didn’t think about the fact that I had a lot more of some colors than others. Determined to keep going and figure something out, I decided to just attach the colors that I had more of to the ones that I was running out of.
The rug began to take on an ombre’ (“funky ombre'” mind you – LOL) effect. I wasn’t quite sure about how I liked it, but I’m always a fan of trying something new and unique! It got a little hairy towards the end with all my yarn substituting, and my rug only turned out to be about 26X21″. BUT this gave me an idea – try using solid colors and attaching them gradually to create a beautiful ombre’ effect! (of course for this one, I would need to buy more yarn ;))
And so the Peaches Pie Ombre’ Loop Stitch Rug was born

This is a fun and fast project that will be a cute addition to any room. The ombre’ effect adds lots of visual interest and the fluffy loops are so squishy to walk on. Perfect softness for your tootsies.

Positives about this crochet loop stitch rug:
- the flat base and bulky top make it the perfect weight distribution for lying on the floor well.
- you can even make your loop stich rug into a shag rug with a little scissor snipping – simply find the center of each loop section and snip it with the scissors. (you may need to go back and trim the shags to the same length for a more uniform look)
- since this rug is a simple rectangle shape, you can easily adjust it to your desired size.
- the yarn used is machine washable!
measurements
- length measures approximately 32″
- width measures approximately 20″
