This is one of my all-time favorite stitches! I love the visual interest that it gives, and it is so much easier than it looks! You can choose to make your spike stitches 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…and so on rows below your working single crochet. Isn’t that so cool?! You have so many options for a unique design!

spike stitch photo tutorial
- Spike stitch (SP-1, SP-2, SP-3, SP-4, SP-5, SP-6) – insert hook in the SC 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 rows below the top SC row. (photo 1 below) Yarn over and loosely pull up your loop until it meets the top SC row. Yarn over and pull through two loops on hook. This will give you an elongated SC called a spike stitch. (See photo 2 for what SP-1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 look like)
