Time for another crochet tutorial y’all! My goal is to provide video tutorials for all of my patterns going forward. That way it makes it as easy as possible for you to create your crochet projects from my patterns! π With that in mind, I thought I would make this FPHDC crochet tutorial for beginners! This photo and video tutorial actually go along with my first ever crochet pattern – the Fire Lily Cowl.

This crochet cowl pattern is still one of my most popular to date and one of my favorites. You can find the free pattern for this cowl [here]. If videos are more your jam, I plan on creating a full video tutorial for this pattern as well! Subscribe to my YouTube channel [here] to find out when that tutorial is live! π I also post lots of patterns, tutorials and finished projects on my channel.

The front post half double crochet (FPHDC) is an easy stitch that creates beautiful texture. In the photo above I have made a swatch starting with 10 HDC across. On row 2, I alternate FPHDC and HDC every other stitch. Every other row I made a row of HDC all the way across. It’s fun to play around with different ways to incorporate this crochet stitch…

You can also achieve the cool ribbing shown above by making a front post half double crochet in each stitch across and alternating rows of HDC in between each FPHDC row.
