You know how sometimes it feels like nothing you try seems to work? Well, that has been happening to me a lot lately and specifically with this aspen leaf square knitting pattern.

It used to be that if something didn’t turn out the way I had envisioned creatively, I would just give up. Like when I was a kid and my mom was teaching me how to sew…I would get so discouraged if my project wasn’t looking the way I wanted it to. It was really hard for me to keep the momentum going if I wasn’t immediately satisfied with what my work was looking like.

don’t give up
I’m so thankful that God has brought me a long way on the not-giving-up front. But man, its been a struggle lately. I’ve really had to keep persevering with a couple of my recent designs. Thankfully though, the perseverance paid off! And, I can now bring you this cute little aspen leaf knitting pattern.

If you are working on something that just doesn’t seem to be going right, I want to encourage you to keep going! Maybe take a little break and do something else you enjoy, but then come right back and give it another go! It’s so rewarding to see those projects through….and who knows…you may even learn a new technique in the process! π Let’s persevere together!!

I’ve had an idea that involves Aspen leaves brewing in my mind for a while, so I thought it might be fun to start with a square y’all could use in your own projects! π

I seriously cannot get over the stunning beauty that surrounds us here – Yay God!! I have been so inspired by the flowers, and trees, and rocks (yes, rocks…LOL!)! The Aspen tree is definitely my favorite and has been for a long time. Maybe cause I was born in CO and it’s in my blood. The leaves look like little coins when the wind blows them, and the contrast of those bright leaves with the white and black trunk is just beautiful!

lets get started!
There are a couple options with this little cutie as well. You can make it all one color and showcase the pretty texture. Or you can add in a little intarsia color work. I did find that the best option for intarsia is probably using the top side of the leaf as your right side (shown in center below). Using intarsia and showcasing the underside of the leaf does not give as clean of a look to the finished graphic.

I have tried to make the graph as easy as possible to read. I always like it when I don’t have to think as much. π See legend for what each color and letter stands for. Odd rows you will read from right to left and even rows from left to right. Each square counts as a ST. If reading a graph isn’t your thing, then you are welcome to scroll down – I have also written the pattern out in rows.
CO 24 and begin with row 1 (bottom right corner) of the graph.
