I have been a part of the Knit Collage make along (or knit along) 5 times now…. And, let me tell you, I absolutely LOVE it! Each season I get so excited to see what the new design options are and I always have more than one of them on my list to make… Now, whether I get around to making them all or not is another story. π Spring 2022 was no exception and I could not wait to dive into this adorable crochet granny square cardigan – The Corrine Cardi!

knit collage make along details
If you are new her, welcome! π You may not know, but Knit Collage is my absolute favorite yarn! It’s full of the most beautiful colors, textures, and details. Not to mention it is handspun in India by a group of very talented ladies. Getting to work with it is so special and I love being able to try new styles and colors with each knit along (or make along). These make alongs happen twice a year – once in the spring and once in the fall. If you ever get the chance to be a part of one, I highly recommend it! You can find my spring 2021 knit along project [here] and lots of videos from my past KAL projects below on my YouTube channel!
granny square cardigan yarn styles + colors
I am always drawn to bright and bold colors. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good neutral as well. But, if you put both a neutral and a neon in front of me, I would go for the neon every time. I like to consider neon my neutral, lol! π That being said, with this Corrine Cardi I wanted to go for something a little different. I have really been into greens lately, specifically forest green and army green. When I saw this Fatigue Green combo as an option for the sweater, I could not resist!
This crochet granny square cardigan design uses the Knit Collage Serenity Boucle Yarn as well as the Wildflower Yarn and Wildflower Mini Sampler. The Serenity Boucle is the color Fatigue Green and the two Wildflower Mini Samplers Kits are:
Midnight Rider Kit – colors include:
- Midnight Amber
- Sage Green
- Tribal
- Hibiscus Flower
- Lotus Petal
Blush Happy Kit – colors include:
- Petal
- Tribal
- Sienna
- Sierra Redwood
- Beatnik
The kit also included a single skein of Wildflower Yarn in Dusty Fleur. I had so much fun trying new colors that I hadn’t tried before this time around.
choosing granny square colors
I wasn’t sure exactly how I wanted to coordinate the colors for my granny squares, so I decided to just choose as I went along. What I ended up doing was choosing the wildflower colors that seemed to contrast the most. I wanted to create lots of visual interest on my cardigan, so that the wildflower colors really stood out against the green background. If I liked a particular color combination, I made more than one granny square with it. I am really happy with the way they turned out! The pink next to the green is definitely one of my favorite combinations! π

confession time
Y’all, I have a confession to make. You may have heard me say before how important it is to check gauge and how much of a difference it makes. Well, that is definitely true! BUT, let me tell you, sometimes I just get so excited to start and I do not check it. I know, I know, by now I really should be able to resist the urge to start a project without checking gauge, but sometimes the excitement just takes over. What can I say, the struggle is real. Can you relate? We will see if I learn my lesson this time because….I ran out of yarn!! LOL!
making some granny square cardigan adjustments
The good news is, everything worked out in the end! YAY! π I was able to use some leftover Serenity Boucle yarn that I had from a previous knit along. This time in the color Peony. With a little rationing for each sleeve as well as adding a few more rows to the cuffs, I made it work! I really love the end result and I like that my granny square crochet cardigan has a little something extra added to it. It serves as my signature and also a reminder to check gauge in the future! Hahaha!
blocking my corrine cardi
Besides checking gauge, I also highly recommend blocking your finished item! It really does make such a difference with the drape and fit. Blocking helps the stitches in your garment (or whatever your finished object may be) relax, so that they have a more uniform and elegant drape. If its a garment, and the fit isn’t exactly what you had hoped for, often times you can fix that during the blocking process as well. While I did not check gauge with this sweater, I did block it. π I was even able to get a few more inches out of the sleeves during this process resulting in the perfect sleeve length! I recently purchased this Wool & Cashmere Shampoo from Amazon and I really like it! It works well for blocking. Plus, it smells so nice!
my finished granny square crochet cardigan
Y’all, I love this sweater! Like seriously, LOVE it! Sure, I was excited to get going on it when the make along started, but I didn’t realize how much fun I would have making it. AND, how much I would adore the finished object! It had been such a long time since I had crocheted a granny square and I was reminded just how much I love making them! Isn’t there just something so satisfying about making a granny square?! I also cannot get over the fit! I am all about an oversized garment. The boxier the better, in my opinion. Lol! π I know I am going to wear this sweater ALL the time!
The combination of crochet and knitting was another reason I fell head over heels for this crochet granny square cardigan. I love both knitting and crochet so much, and when I do one for a while, I miss doing the other. Any one else feel this way? This project was perfect because I was able to crochet cute granny squares for the body and then finish out the cardigan with simple knitted sleeves. It was the perfect combo!
